Moving Forward

This is the time of year when we are flooded with broken promises and stories about unreachable dreams. Well, at least that is what the world says and in some cases they may be right. New Year’s is a day when tons of people declare life changing goals for their future.  While it may be true that many do not fulfill these goals, many people do.  I believe that people focus on the negative because they are too afraid to focus on the positive.  I see nothing wrong with New Year’s resolutions and actually applaud them. Admitting that you need change is better than completely ignoring your faults. As a matter of fact, I write a list of goals for myself twice a year for renewal and reflection.

Here’s a list of some of things that I would like to work on in 2012.

1. Stay focused. I distract myself whenever I am doing something positive because I do not want to fail. In order to combat this fear, I will use methods that push me through my doubt and towards success.

2. Take more risks. I have been trying to make other people happy my entire life. It’s time for me to be happy. I dropped both Biology and Psychology as majors to focus on Journalism. Now, I would like to relocate and I will certainly find a way.

3. Be more open. One of the things that 2011 has taught me is that there are always new things to learn. Instead of going of off things that I have been taught; I intend to learn on my own through research and dedication.

4.Be more confident. I feel as if I need to be more confident with who I am. I am constantly looking for approval from others when the only approval I need is my own. This will be my biggest challenge this year.  I will work hard to trust myself and ignore my doubts. My success will be my reward.

5. I would love for RespectedLife to grow. I will publish at least 3 articles a day.  I will try to publicize it more through social networking and by word of mouth, but I need your help. Please follow us on twitter on @RespectedLife. Invite your friends to subscribe, Stumble or Digg our posts, and donate if you can. Your help is greatly appreciated.

But, enough about me and my resolutions, Tell me about yours.

It’s Impossible

I was talking to someone the other day. It was just a casual conversation. We talked about school, friends, and family. Everything was going great until he asked me what I wanted to do with my life. I usually hesitate or lie when people ask me what I want to do. I do this because the responses I get upset me. I still decided to give this person a chance. Maybe he was different. Maybe he would approve. He might even encourage me. That’s what I thought and I was wrong. He gave the same blank stare everyone else gave. He laughed and said my dreams were impossible. I smiled and walked away. I am used to people responding that way. I was not offended at all. People do not know my strengths or my weaknesses. They do not know what I am capable of. This guy was not talking about what I could or could not do. He was talking about himself. When people see others who are serious about their dreams, it scares them. It is so rare. People always have a back up plan for their dreams. They “know” their dreams won’t come true. They “know they are not good enough. They know they are not serious. They do not understand people who are. They expect for everyone else to know what they  “know”. They expect for everyone else to do what they do. They forget that I am not them. They forget that I am in control of my life. Anything is possible and nothing will stop me from pursuing what is meant for me.

” Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m possible!’ ”
-Audrey Hepburn

Sometimes you are happy.

Sometimes you are devastated.

Sometimes you feel like your untouchable.

Sometimes you feel like you’re nothing.

Sometimes you just want to give up.

Trust in yourself

I’m sure that most of you have heard of Rebecca Black. She is responsible for the YouTube viral sensation, Friday.  I admit to picking on the poor girl after hearing the song. I mean it had to be one of the most annoying songs that I had ever heard. Imagine hearing, “Its Friday, Friday. Gotta get down on Friiiday!” over and over again in your head. I was pissed. After a day of thinking, I wasn’t so angry anymore. I realized that Rebecca was a girl with a dream, like most of us, and that it really was not that serious.  I even thought of making a video  defending  the poor girl.  I realized that I love Fridays. I do a little dance every Friday because it means I get a break from school and drunk college kids.  It was also refreshing to see a young teen sticking to a song that actually fit her age range. I mean what do 11 year old Disney stars know about true love and being heart broken?… Exactly.

Check out the video for Friday below:
